You ever discover something and wonder: “why didn’t I think of that?” It happened to me just the other week when I came across a simple post on Instagram containing a delicious beverage with a hilarious name. For those of you familiar with the lore of golf history, you know the Arnold Palmer: a simple, wholesome, delicious blend of iced tea and lemonade in tribute to one of the best golfers ever. Doesn’t get more pure than that. Now, enter John Daly, the Happy Gilmore of the professional golf world. Don’t believe me? Check out this clip from a Pro-Am event. The dude would go out in eccentric clothes, when he wasn’t being interviewed shirtless, and golf while smoking cigarettes, typically whipping-up the gallery into a crazed frenzy…perhaps even throwing back a beer mid-round (like he did at the LA Open) and would absolutely crush a golf ball.
Why is John Daly relevant? Because that is precisely the name of today’s easy summertime cocktail, which I learned from my friend SmithandSpatula. It is simple, delicious, has a hilarious moniker, and like JD, is a surprising winner. After seeing the post I couldn't get it out of my head for a few days which is why I asked Lesli if I could share her recipe with you all. It’s perfect for a Friday as well because we all need to unwind and there is no simpler way to do so in the summer than mixing 3 mere libations together. We both have an affinity for bourbon/whiskey so that’s what I used here too. But, if you prefer vodka, go right ahead because there are no rules when it comes to John Daly!

It doesn’t matter if you’re making this drink for 1 or 100, just equal out the portions!
1 part iced tea (I prefer unsweetened, especially with bourbon or whiskey)
1 part lemonade
1 part Basil Hayden's Whiskey (or your favorite liquor)
Lemon
Fill a glass (or pitcher) with some ice and pour in equal parts of tea, lemonade, and whiskey. Maybe add an extra splash of your liquor as we all know that's exactly what John would do.
Give a stir and garnish with a slice of lemon because you fancy!
