I groaned when I saw Dune 2 was coming out last year, because I correctly presumed it would end up a best picture nominee like it’s predecessor. However, I must say I did find the sequel to be more entertaining than the original movie. But, then I got to thinking about what I would possibly make. Last time, I made a Blood & Sand. I returned to the same sandy location armed with a new item to photograph this year as well. But, seriously, I’m out of sand-related items now. So, if it’s nominated ever again, I will have to really devise a new concept.
Today, I made Dune Pudding, a layered dessert of “sand” made from crushed cookies and some pumped-up pudding. It’s simple to make. Enjoy it while you watch Dune 2. While I served this up in a medium sized vessel, you can totally layer this in smaller glasses for everyone to marvel at when you hand it to them. These would be a great dessert at the beach on your summer vacation.

Dune Pudding
Two 3.5oz boxes of french vanilla instant pudding mix
4 cups milk
8 oz cream cheese, softened
Half stick of butter, softened
⅔ cup powdered sugar
15 oz box of Nilla wafers
2 Oreos
Gold, silver, and white sugar crystals
12 oz Cool Whip
Prepare the pudding by whisking the boxed powder together with the milk, in a large bowl, for three minutes.
Set aside the pudding to allow it to thicken.
Meanwhile, using a rubber spatula, mash and mix the cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar together in a small bowl.
Then, place the cookies together in a large food processor and pulse and blend until it finley ground like sand.
Pour the crumbs into a bowl and add about 2 teaspoons each of the sugar crystals. Stir until incorporated, adding any additional sugar crystals you wish.
Once the pudding is set, briefly whisk in the cream cheese mixture, until no streaks remain.
Then, fold in the cool whip until fully incorporated.
To assemble, place some “cookie sand” in the bottom of a glass, followed by the pudding mixture, repeat the layering and then top off with additional sand (just below the rim of the glass.
Cover and set in the fridge for at least one hour.
When ready to serve, add additional cookie sand to the top of the dessert.
